Deborah E. Leckband, Ph.D. Professor Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign www.chemeng.uiuc.edu/Faculty/leckband.php Deborah Leckband graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from Humboldt State University. She earned a Masters degree and PhD in biophysical chemistry from Cornell University, and studied enzyme reaction kinetics under Gordon Hammes, NAS. From 1988-1990, she was an NIH postdoctoral fellow with Robert Langer (NAS, NAE, NIM) in Chemical Engineering at MIT, and then continued postdoctoral work at the University of California at Santa Barbara, with Jacob Israelachvili (NAS, NAE, FRS). After 2 years as Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at SUNY at Buffalo, she moved to the University of Illinois in 1995. From 1999 she has been Full Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. From 2003-2005 she was Westwater Professor and Head of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Since 2003 she has been the Reid T. Milner Professor of Chemical Sciences and holds joint positions in Chemistry and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Deborah Leckband has published over 90 articles and received several awards including: Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Science: Fellow, American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE); Westwater Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering; Britton Chance Distinguished Lecturer in Eng and Medicine, Univ. of Pennsylvania; Distinguished Lecturer, Boston U. School of Dental Medicine; Provost's Distinguished Lecture Series, University of Texas, Austin; Petit Professor, Univ of Illinois; Amoco Lecturer, Stanford University; Xerox Faculty Research Award; National Science Foundation CAREER Award; National Institutes of Health FIRST Award.
