Monday, June 5TOWARD AN iMoD ECOSYSTEM Mark Miles Qualcomm MEMS Technologies Mark Miles is CEO of Mark Miles Consulting Inc. a San Francisco based consultancy that was established to promote and support the development of innovative display-centric concepts and products. He is also strategic technology development consultant for Qualcomm MEMS Technologies (QMT). QMT is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, which was established to commercialize display products based on iMoD technology. Mr. Miles is the inventor of the iMoD (inteferometric modulator) and an expert in the design of dynamic optical structures and large area MEMS manufacturing processes. The iMoD is a MEMS device that will provide the basis for advanced flat panel displays which can enable new kinds of portable and handheld products. In 1997, he co-founded Iridigm Display Corporation to advance the state of iMoD technology. As Chief Technology Officer, he directed the company's technology development for over five years. In 2004, Iridigm was acquired by Qualcomm. Prior to founding Iridigm, Mr. Miles was president and founder of Etalon Inc., an R&D firm that specialized in cutting edge MEMS devices and thin film process development using unconventional materials. With over twelve years of experience in the field, he has managed or participated in a wide variety of development efforts for academic, private and government agencies including Advanced Research Projects Agency, National Science Foundation, and Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Mr. Miles holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has written seven publications, holds eleven patents, and has been an invited speaker at multiple MEMS and display focused conferences.
